Committee Members
From professional wallers to video game developers, our committee members may come from a variety of backgrounds, but they all share a passion for promoting and preserving the traditional craft of dry stone walling in Scotland.

Kate Armstrong - Chairwoman
Kate joined CSB in 1994 and has served on the committee for the last 16 years as member, Secretary, Treasurer and Chairwoman. Holds the Initial (Level 1) qualification. She makes site visits, is contact person for events and helps make up the programme.
bob pawson - secretary
Bob Pawson joined the branch after a training course at Cambo in April 2017 following a long held interest in walling. He has attended many of the events since and was elected to the committee at the 2018 AGM as branch secretary.
Kate thomson - Assistant secretary
Kate describes herself as very much an amateur. She has been a member for the past four years prior to retirement. She loves the satisfaction of seeing a wall being built and contributing to a little bit of history, with the added bonus of being out in the fresh air and visiting a variety of places. She joined the committee in November 2018 and currently, as Assistant Secretary, working on this year’s programme.

Walling as a hobby came a bit late and I think I am too little (5ft 2
ins), but I love it for the combination of a practical task in great
locations, which is creative, inventive and shared with similar
enthusiasts, both amateur and professional.
ann gammAck - committee member
Ann joined CSB after a Beginners course at Huntingtower in 2004. A hobby waller, Ann most enjoys building/restoring plain farm dykes with stone of a manageable size. Ann previously edited the branch newsletter and is currently the website coordinator. Ann was elected on to the committee in 2015
ROBERT DUNLOP - COMMITTEE MEMBER
Robert has been a member since attending a Training Course in April 2018. He describes himself as an enthusiastic amateur, who considers walling a hobby. He enjoys building and repairing walls in different settings and learning about different styles and designs.
After taking part in several member events Robert felt he wanted to be more involved and joined the committee in October 2022.
MARTIN TYLER - COMMITTEE MEMBER
Martin Tyler is a full-time professional waller undertaking all aspects of dry stone work and dry stone effect walling. He was one of the 2018/2019 DSWA bursary programme graduates and has already developed a very successful business. He was co-opted on to the committee in November, 2020.
