Repair and heightening wall at Serenity Garden, Pitlochry on Sat 27th -Sun 28th

We were invited to rebuild approximately 20 mtrs of low boundary wall which bordered a burn between the grounds of the Serenity garden at the Pitlochry Episcopal Church and the neighbouring Blair Atholl Distillery.

With a lot of stone to be taken down before the rebuild, the group of six, led by Jim Grant set to work.

Building with Jim on the Saturday we’re the experienced team of Kate Armstrong, Dorothy Findlay, Bob Pawson, Bill Thomson and Trish Waite.

The ground was well prepared for us by Pam Godwin and her team from the church and as the wall was to be increased in width and height, they had organised extra stone to be brought in from the distillery.

The stone was a mix of very rounded boulders, with old bricks and mortar for rubble infill. It wasn’t easy to work with but with Jim’s guidance, a lot was achieved.

With the weather being kind, a leisurely lunch was enjoyed under beautiful trees.

On day two, Bob and Trish finished the copes and pinning

There was time for Trish and Bob to start on the next 20 mtrs in preparation for another weekend’s work. This time on the distillery side and thankfully, with less rounded boulders.

This was a delightful place to work and we were wonderfully looked after with soup, sandwiches AND cake.

To be continued in 2023…..a date will be set early next year.
